Gaceta Sanitaria is a scientific journal and organ of the Spanish Society of Public Health and Health Administration (SESPAS). Gaceta Sanitaria is governed by the system of peer review and publishes original, Original short review articles, editorials, letters to the editor and other special articles on all areas of Public Health and Health Administration, including epidemiology, prevention and health promotion, management and evaluation of policies and services, health economics, environmental health and international health. Gaceta Sanitaria reviewed and accepted for publication papers in Spanish and English, originating mainly in Spain and other European and Latin American countries.

Gaceta Sanitaria is indexed in Web of Knowledge (Science Citation Index, SCI, and Social Sciences Citation Index, SSCI), Medline / PubMed, SciELO, Spanish Medical Index, TOXLINE, Cancerlit, Aidsline, Cab Health, Bibliomed, Take care, Index Medicus, Eventline and Healthstar. The Editorial Committee devoted special efforts to ensure the quality and speed of the evaluation of manuscripts and promptness in the publication of accepted manuscripts. Management indicators of manuscripts in 2009 show that the interval between submission and final acceptance decision is 16 weeks of median. The time between acceptance and publication on paper was 41 weeks of median, but the authors should expect only 6 weeks to see their work published as advance online. The response time in case of rejection is: median 10 days of the initial rejection without going external review and 10 weeks of evaluation. In 2009 we rejected 65.1% of manuscripts received. In the case of the original (regular and short) rejection reaches 70.2% and review articles, special or 55.6% view. We rejected without external review send almost 30% of papers received in order to streamline the editorial process and provide rapid response to authors.

The bibliographic impact factor of 2009, as calculated by Thomson Reuters and published in June 2010, from 1,172 p Gaceta Sanitaria has been included in the category''Public Health, Environmental & Occupational Health''in both SCI and SSCI. The FI of 1.172 places Gaceta Sanitaria at position 84 of 122 in that category in the SCI and at position 57 of 95 in the SSCI (in both cases in the third quartile).
