

Gaceta Sanitaria is the scientific journal and expression tool of the Spanish Society of Public Health and Health Administration. Gaceta Sanitaria is a peer-reviewed journal aimed at publishing Original papers, Short reports, Review papers, Opinion and Debate essays, Letters to the Editor, and other special articles in the broad field of Public Health and Health Administration, including epidemiology, health promotion and prevention of diseases, health care management, health services and health policies evaluation, health economics, environmental and occupational health, and international health. Gaceta Sanitaria evaluates and accepts for publication papers written in Spanish and in English, mainly coming from Spain and from other European and LatinAmerican countries
Gaceta Sanitaria is indexed in Science Citation Index (Thomson Scientific), Medline/PubMed, Scielo, Spanish Medical Index, Toxline, Cancerlit, Aidsline, Cab Health, Bibliomed, Cuiden, Index Medicus, Eventline and Healthstar. The Editorial Board is committed to guarrant the quality and celerity of manuscripts' evaluation as well as the celerity in the publication of accepted manuscripts. The external peer review of manuscripts lasts 12 weeks on average. Mean time between final acceptation and publication are 20 weeks. Rejections without external peer review are communicated in one week. The mean time from acceptance to on-line publication and PubMed indexation is 8 weeks, and 22 weeks for publication in traditional paper. In 2008, Gaceta Sanitaria rejected 58.4% of the all the papers received (85.8% in the case of Originals and Brief Originals).
Gaceta Sanitaria was included for tracking in Science Citation Index two years ago, and hence its official impact factor computed by Thomsom Scientific will be announced in June 2010. Using the data available from the Web of Science and a similar methodology, Elsevier Spain (our publisher) has computed an “unofficial” 2008 impact factor of 1.496.
